Kaltak, 17, has only just returned from the country after starring for Vanuatu at the OFC U-20 Championship in Auckland last month, during which he caught the eye with a number of assured performances as his team performed well to finish third.
Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) President Lambert Maltock revealed the exciting news of Kaltak’s signing during a press conference at VFF headquarters this week and is delighted to see the career of one of Vanuatu’s most promising young players progressing.
Waterside Karori, nicknamed the Wharfies, play in the Capital Premier League and the club is looking to strengthen their squad after a slow start to the season.
Club administrator Bruce Duncan is pleased to have secured the services of Kaltak and is confident the youngster will make a positive difference.
“We look forward to his arrival and can guarantee him a safe and enjoyable time in Wellington,” Duncan says.
“Brian will be a welcome asset as part of our first team and will get to be around a great bunch of players. The coaching and management team are all passionate and hungry for football.”
Duncan says Kaltak, who has signed on for four months, will be well looked after away from the pitch and the move will not just be a good experience for footballing reasons.
“He will be living in a positive, secure and friendly environment, so he can enjoy a good Kiwi lifestyle. He will also get the opportunity to coach our juniors, with the guidance of our director of football Ian Porteous.”
Kaltak was born and raised in the village of Erakor and follows his father Timothy, who starred as a striker for the Vanuatu national team, in carving out a career in football.
“I was a striker with Erakor Golden Star and the national team during my playing days but I think Brian is a good defender,” the proud dad says.
“I am sure if the coaches moved him up the field he would be able to score a lot of goals because he has already scored some great goals for the VFF Academy team. I would like to thank all the academy coaches for their great help in bringing Brian on for the last two years – I am very proud of him now.”
Vanuatu U-20 coach Moise Poida has presided over Kaltak’s development and believes the talented teen is a potential star in the making.
“He is a great player and very strong in defence,” Poida says. “I am sure he will have a good season with Waterside Karori.”
