Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Bob Kumar says a bumper crowd is likely to witness the second major tournament of the season.
“We are expecting about 35,000 people and everything is in place for yet another successful event,” he says. “I can assure the fans that Nausori is ready to host this major tournament, which was last played here in 2007.”
Thursday is the first day proper of the competition, although the curtain was raised with four first-round matches at TFL National Stadium in Suva last Sunday, for which 7,000 spectators turned up to cheer on their favourite teams.
“There is a lot of interest being generated amongst the fans. The first four matches saw some unpredictable results and everyone will be kept guessing for the remaining matches,” Kumar says.
“I am sure the fans will enjoy the tournament but I would like to plead for them to please be responsible and not to commit any unlawful acts which could get them into trouble.”
There will be plenty of exciting action for those fans to take in tomorrow night in the form of four crucial matches.
Hosts and defending champions Rewa will be up against a Ba side eager to bounce back after losing their first match 1-0 to Nadroga. The Men in Black are Fiji’s representatives for the upcoming O-League, which kicks-off in late October, and will be keen to prove they are worthy of their place in the Pacific’s premier club competition by beating the BOG champions.
In the other Pool One clash, Labasa will be looking to claim their second victory in a row but will come up against a Nadroga side determined to show last weekend’s upset over Ba was no fluke.
Pool Two remains wide open after both matches ended in draws on Sunday, Tavua being held 1-1 by Suva, and Navua and Nadi also playing out a 1-1 tie.
Nadi will open tomorrow’s action at 5.30pm against Suva and that match will be followed by a clash between Navua and Savusavu, the latter of whom will be making their first outing of this year’s BOG tournament.
