This week Tonga Football Association (TFA) has been distributing some good cheer in the form of ‘Just Play’ kits to schools and community.
The lucky beneficiaries are Kolomotua, Longolongo, Ngeleia, Nukualofa, ‘Atele, Veitongo, Vaini, Tokomololo, Pea and Halalo Government Primary Schools as well as the Lapaha community. Each of these has received four kits each.
Each kit consists of a ball bag, two balls, eight bibs, four cones, 10 markers and a whistle to be used for ‘Just Play’ which was successfully launched in Tonga late last month.
This Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) initiative is funded by the Australian Government through its agencies the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) and will be rolled out in the Kingdom over the next three years benefiting 81 primary schools as well as communities in Tonga.
TFA in collaboration with the Government’s Education and Sports authorities will be responsible for the adaptation of the program in Tonga. TFA’s General Secretary ‘Ahongalu Fusimalohi said he is pleased to see the programs goals being enacted.
“Our aim is to ensure that football development at a grassroots level, both girls and boys, is well catered for by extending to primary school and community level involvement to promote physical activity and encouraging healthy lifestyle among children aged 6-13,” Fusimalohi said.
The ‘Just Play’ pilot program starts in earnest this week with TFA’s team conducting the programs in co-operation with primary school teachers during their schools’ various sports curriculum sessions.
