PNG Football Association president David Chung said apart from the K24 million (US$12m) from FIFA covering the operational costs for the visiting teams, schools in the country will benefit from its legacy programme.
He said 17 primary and secondary schools in NCD had been identified as training venues for the visiting teams.
The schools’ facilities, which include change rooms, toilets and playing surfaces, will be upgraded to meet FIFA requirements.
Apart from that, a lot of people will benefit from workshops conducted by FIFA and other stakeholders on managing stadiums, turf management, protocol, security and others to ensure the visiting teams were taken care of for the duration of the tournament.
Chung, who is a FIFA vice-president said funds would be spent on branding, marketing and advertising of the U-20 Women’s World Cup; all this money will come from the FIFA competition department.
He said the Government guaranteed the tournament by injecting K10m to stage it, with an additional K2m to prepare the local women’s football team.
The K10m will come under PNG Sports Foundation to ensure the facilities and other logistics are in place to support the women’s tournament.
Chung congratulated New Zealand for winning the 2015 OFC U-20 Women’s Championship in October.
PNG, as host of the tournament automatically qualify for the U-20 World Cup.
