The Solomon Islands Football Federation has named a squad of 21 players who will train for a place in the national futsal side to compete in OFC Futsal Championship in June.

Small-sided Games Development officer, Victor Wai’ia, says the squad will undergo intensive preparation before a final team of 12 players are selected.

A wider squad was called together in January to start trainings and Wai’ia says the 21 players have selected from that group.

OFC Futsal Development Officer Scott Gilligan, who recently completed a futsal coaching course in the Solomons, helped to identify the squad.

The Solomon Islands won the OFC Futsal Champsionship in 2008 and went on to compete at the FIFA Futsal World Cup – Brazil 2008.

Wai’ia says the side will be looking to defend their title in June this year.
