NAHA FC MOVE STEP CLOSER TO DJ LEAGUE TOP EIGHT

HONIARA – A spirited comeback has moved Naha FC a step closer to qualifying for the DJ League’s top 8 Challenge playoff after beating Hana 3-2 on Wednesday.

Naha now sits in ninth place, equal on points with Walas and one point behind Rangers. Their last two matches against Sunbeam and Walas will define their season.

Naha conceded two early goals but mounted a spirited second half comeback to grab three goals and secure the three points.

A disappointed Hana coach Rex Masuaku said he did not know why his players could not hold on after leading by two goals in the second half.

Masuaku said his top striker and Hickley Rence missed a dozen chances in the first half which if scored could have killed the match.

Hana has now completed all its matches and currently sits in sixth place on the table. They will wait for the other outstanding matches to play out to see if they will qualify for the top 8 competiton.

At the top of the table Makuru need to win their last game to win the Premier Division and leapfrog Uncles into first place. Uncles have completed all their games and currently sit on 29 points while Makuru sit on 28 with one game to play.

HONIARA – The fourth day of the SIFF Youth Football Festival in Honiara provided disappointment for some schools whose sides were disqualified for breaking eligibility rules.

Chief organizer Noel Wagapu said it was heartbreaking for many players who have played so hard in the pool matches to be told that they were disqualified because they did not meet the age requirement.

“I’ve seen a lot of good players in the last three days – some in the teams that were disqualified and I felt for them but the regulations were very clear and all participating schools were aware of it,”

The competition which started on Monday attracted 30 schools from within Honiara and one from Guadalcanal Province.
