The feature games of the tour will see Fiji play New Zealand in a three-match series, while they will also come up against New Zealand regional sides Auckland and Waikato Bay of Plenty.
Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel said the tour would provide a good opportunity for the squad to develop ahead of the OFC Futsal Championship, which will be played in Tahiti between 6-14 February.
“Our main focus is to get more players ready for the qualifiers, and the trip to New Zealand gives us the chance to do that,” Patel says.
“This will give the coach an opportunity to see how the players go against quality opposition, while for the players it will be a chance to gain some valuable experience on the court.”
Fiji will take a 14-man squad to New Zealand, with Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal saying a spate of injuries had forced coach Intiaz Khan to delay the naming of his squad.
“We need to assess the injuries which some of the players are carrying,” Pal says.
“Once we know who is fit then things will start to come together, but the camps so far have gone very well.”
The winner of the OFC Futsal Championship gains direct entry to the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Columbia.
