Damassing’s side is currently competing in the Port Vila U-17 Women’s Football League Independence Cup 2013 and believes the side’s early preparations will pay off in the long run for the side.
“The U-17 competition is not new for my team, in the 2012 U-17 league I had the same team registered and because I knew that the league would continue in 2013 I decided to organise and prepare my team in advance so they would be strong for the new competition,” Damassing says.
“The performance of the Amicale depends mainly on the player’s commitment in training. For me there is no doubt that if the team puts into practice what we have been working on in trainings we will see it in their results.”
Damassing says with young players, such as those she is working with, it is important to have the support of parents.
“I have some good players but sometimes they don’t always have the support of their parents so I ask that parents support their daughters to continue following their passion for football.”
Amicale striker Maximilienne Bihu is one of those committed and talented young players who also believes the support of parents can make a big difference for players like herself.
“I am a student and I used to play football and I had a negative remark from my mother telling me that football would have a negative impact on my education,” Bihu says.
“But from my point of view and from my experience, football contributes to your improvement and increases the possibilities of continuing your education. Football has helped me discover new skills and has allowed me to improve and progress.
“I would like to thank my mum, my brothers and sisters for their support as it has been really helpful to have them with me.”
The Port Vila U-17 Women’s Football League Independence Cup 2013 is being contested by five teams including Amicale, Academy, Ambassador, Malapoa College and Lycee LAB, at Malapoa College field in Port Vila.
