The Uruguayan previously held the role for three seasons before being relieved of his duties in 2009.
But Patel says the Fiji FA board of control have decided that Buzzetti is now the best candidate to take up the post.
“As many already know, Carlos was employed by Fiji FA in the past and from my point of view we need a man of his calibre back to steer us in the right direction,” Patel says.
“The board felt the same way and supported me 100 per cent in the decision to reinstate Carlos as the national coaching director. A lot of work had been done by him during his time with Fiji FA and we performed well under his guidance which was evident with the development of our coaches.
“If we want to see continuity and for Fiji FA to head in the right direction, he is the best person as he knows the islands and the game of football here well.”
Buzzetti will be based in Ba and is expected to take up the role soon. His workload will be heavy over the coming months with a busy schedule of tournaments and activities in place.
“We have reached an understanding with him and he is ready to come back,” Patel says. “It is now just up to us to get the logistics right before he makes his return.”
