The Football Federation American Samoa (FFAS) Futsal League concluded with a thrilling 5-4 win for the Black Roses men’s team over Lion Heart at Leone High School, less than an hour after their women’s team had cruised to an 8-1 victory over Utulei Youth.
Dion Ott starred for his side in the final and was awarded the MVP award for his consistent performances throughout the season.
And it was a similar story for the women, with young talent Angela Sa’o leading her side to victory with a staggering seven goals in the final as Utulei had no answers. Sa’o, who has experience in the 11-a-side game playing at the South Pacific Games and the OFC U-20 Women’s Championship, was awarded the MVP after the match.
The Black Roses’ men’s and women’s teams both picked up the coveted championship trophy plus $500 of prize money.
In the men’s division, the Lion Heart side picked up second while FC SKBC finished third. Utulei Youth women had to settle for the runners-up medal and Tafuna Jets edged out Ilaoa & To’omata for third spot.
FFAS President Alex Iuli Godinet was on hand to present the prizes during the awards ceremony.
The futsal league has become an important fixture on the FFAS calendar as more and more players take part in the 5-a-side form of the game.
Black Roses are showing their dominance with the men’s and women’s titles to add to their 11-a-side title in 2009.
