Adding insult to injury, it was a former Nadi player who guided Suva to glory.
Napolioni Qasevakatini found the back of the net in the dying stages of the match much to the delight of the capital city fans, but no so much for their cross-nation rivals.
Having lost to Nadi in the 2014 Fiji FACT earlier this year, Suva had a score to settle in front of eager homes fans keen to see their side secure the new Lloyd Farebrother Courts IDC trophy.
When normal time couldn’t separate the sides, the match went into extra time.
Things looked to be going downhill for Suva when defender Kolonio Sivoki was given his marching orders by referee Salesh Chand after picking up his second yellow card.
Suva coach Gurjit Singh said at that stage, penalties looked like the best option for his side to have any chance of winning.
“In the extra two spells the message was to fall back, defend and head for the penalty shootout, but we had a good breakthrough and Napolioni Qasevakatini managed to score,” Singh said.
Suva last held the IDC title in 2012 but lost it the following year. The victory in the 2014 edition marks a historic year for the side after they won the National Football League and qualified for the 2015 OFC Champions League.
“To the fans, thank you for your support and turning out in numbers,” Singh said.
In the other divisions Rakiraki was crowned Premier champions after a 2-1 over Nasinu. Kamil College beat Vunimoli Islamia 2-0 and Lautoka won the Primary title with a 2-1 win over Labasa.
