The reigning champions have given the Solomon Islands international a chance in PNG’s semi-professional soccer competition after Hekari decided not to retain him.
Waroi has been a regular player in the NSL since the 2002-2003 season and has played several OFC Champions League games for Hekari.
He spent a season with Vanuatu’s Amicale FC before returning to Port Moresby to play.
A utility on the field, Waroi can play striker, attacking midfield and could even be a valuable asset in the last line of defence.
Dwellers head coach Peter Gunemba said Waroi could be described as the best buy for his team this year, and is a player who will add experience to the team as they prepare for the OFC Champions League in April.
He said Waroi would be one of the two or three experienced players from outside to join the team.
“We are looking at Fiji, and negotiations are underway to have someone flown in before the end of round one of the National Soccer League,” Gunemba says.
“The Dwellers are looking beyond NSL parameters for recruitments but we want to provide a good opportunity for local talent before we can look for players outside Lae City – be it in Port Moresby or overseas.”
