Shefa Football Association president Tane Maki, also treasurer for Vanuatu Football Federation, shared the news at the conclusion of the successful Wantok Futsal Competition and believes the funding will go a long way towards promoting and developing futsal at the Grassroots level.
“Firstly, I would like to thank FIFA, OFC and VFF for providing this important funding for futsal development in Vanuatu, especially on the island of Efate,” Tane says.
“Through this funding we aim to increase the number of young boys playing futsal in the northern part of Efate island.
“To achieve these goals we will work with VFF to support this important futsal project and I am sure we will compete in the next Wantok Futsal Competition next year.”
Shefa Football Association (SFA) is one of the eight member associations of Vanuatu Football Federation.
Some similar futsal projects funded by FIFA and OFC are under consideration for the island of Santo and expected to get underway in 2015.
The North Efate Futsal Court construction project is currently out to tender and once this process is finalised work is expected to begin towards the end of October/debut of November for completion by the end of January 2015.
