Dreketi manager Mukesh Kumar says his side came ready for a tough clash.
“We are happy with the boys as they played well, we were prepared for this game,” he says.
“This is the first time ever that we won the Premier League and I would like to thank everyone for their efforts.”
The Fiji National Premier League is the second highest division in Fiji. From next season the side that tops the league table will be promoted to the Super Premier League while the bottom of the table will be relegated to the National Premier League.
On equal standing following the home-and-away legs a third match was required to separate the two sides and determine the champions of the 2013 season.
Determined to grab the title and carve their names on the trophy Dreketi took full advantage of star striker Melvin Kumar’s form to seal the victory.
A flurry of goals were scored in the first 20 minutes of the match with Kumar netting a hat-trick to give his side a comfortable lead.
Nasinu’s Kaushik Kumar brought some hope to his side with his 16th minute strike but Dreketi held strong in defence to limit their opponents to just one goal.
National League board secretary Amitesh Pal says the league concluded on a high note with an historic victory for the Dreketi side.
“The 2013 Premier League season was a competitive one and the best team won the series. I would like to congratulate Dreketi and also thank all the participating teams,” Pal says.
